I don't know about a specific bolt-on for SQL Server but our translation department tell me that there are automated translation dictionaries that do the bulk of the work.
The bulk translation is then manually checked by a native langauge speaker to make sure "hydraulic ram" doesn't get translated into "water goat", or "Coke adds life" doesn't get changed to "Coke brings your relatives back from the dead".
The better translation dictionaries can deal with colloquiasms but there still has to be the human element

Steve - you may want to shoot a private email to Frank Kalis - a German and oldtime member of SSC who's written many articles of his own and would probably be able to help you out....(or at least point you in the right direction....his knowledge base is vast and impressive!)

If ever you need a trombone player with a shark fetish Frank is your man!
July 12, 2005 at 9:29 am
Now that's low... you could at least say that to his face .

I don't need to. He is a noted trombone player and you can visit his web site for yourself!
I agree with the assessment on the breadth of his knowledge and experience. If ever a man deserved to have free beer it's Frank

Then you shall send him a 24 pack .

Well....that'll certainly take care of any six-packs that he may have...

Sending beer to Germany is like sending coal to Newcastle

Hey - Belgium makes some VERY good beer...or we could send some from neighbouring Holland..they have some decent brews...

Coal's to Newcastle! Well if you've ever tried Newcastle Brown you would prefer to drink their coal. Apparently it is known as a bottle of dog because they found a dead dog at the bottom of one of the brewing vats.
Britain has some good beers as well but remember the source water for southern beer has passed through 7 sets of kidneys.

David - after that description we won't have ought to do with either the Newcastle Brown or the southern beers...hope they never pick you as spokesperson...
Maybe you can send Frank some of your home brew by your shed...

First of all the bad news. I am not aware of any tool that will do the job automatically.
Now the good news. I am not aware of any tool that will do the job automatically.
An oxymoron? No, not really. Translation from German to English and vice versa will probably never be a fully automatable process. One of the best examples is the translation Google offers. The English translations of contributions to my site are at most funny. But definitely nothing I would use in business. MS offers also some kind of translation services when you visit their knowledgebase. Although this is a little bit better than Google, it is still far from that result a human being can achieve translating manually.
So, to cut the long story short. I guess you have to bite the bullet and hire someone for this job. I would also do this at the client. That way you might be able to get help from specialized software. Personally I use http://dict.leo.org/?lang=de as my online dictionary. There is a tool available http://www.schleinzer.de/de/products.lion.php and the PRO version http://www.schleinzer.de/de/products.lionPro.php which promises to translate from almost any Windows application. Sounds interesting, but I haven't used it myself.
Soory, but I guess that's not really much of a help to you.

Hey Frank - good to see your post even if you've surfaced for just this one...let us know how it goes with the beer!
