Transactional Replication Latency

  • Hello gurus,

I am seeing heavy latency issues in my SQL 2000 environment. Is there a way to find out exactly what is causing replication latency? I am running two-way transactional replication on 3 servers: One distributor and each of the other 2 servers are publisher/subscriber to the other. There is a lot of data being replicated but usually replication runs smoothly but every now and then the data gets backed up for hours without any apparent reasons. I'd like to be able to isolate where the bottleneck is and what is causing it whether it's SQL, OS or hardware. Any troubleshooting advice or scripts would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Lynn,

Are there any major updates or data changes of any types around the time of your increased latency ?

Are there any processes running at this time ?

Is there any increased user activity i.e. reporting during this time?

    Regards

  • No recent changes that I know of. We've stopped all non sql server processing and we don't allow reporting to run off the publisher.

  • Have you checked all the indexes are in place...do you have any large tables that are being replicated. If these tables are missing indexes then the replication will slow down when records for that particular table are being applied.
