Transactional Replication HELP

  • I am having a very hard time figuring out this Transactional Replication I have been asked to set up as I have never set up any kind of replication. I will try my best to give all the information I have.

SQLServ01 is the publisher and is a SQL 2000 SP4 box

SQLServ02 is the distributor and the subscriber and is a SQL 2008 R2 box.

On SQLServ01 I have two publications from two different databases. In both publications I have one column from a table and 3 columns from another table.

On SQLServ02, My distributor is set up and connected my publisher, SQLServ01. I used the distributor_admin account, used the password, etc. I also have my snapshot folder set up on this database.

Again on SQLServ02, I have two subscriptions set up, one for each publication.

From researching, I think the first thing I want to do is run the snapshot agent on the publisher to generate my initial publicaiton. I can not get this done. Focusing on one publication, when I right click it, I am presented with some different menu options. I set up replication monitoring and for the first publication I am troubleshooting, the status says completed and the Last Action completed says, "A snapshot was not generated because no subscriptions needed initialization."

On my subscriber, working with the subscription that coincides with this publication, again I right click to see the menu options, the two obvious choices I want to look at are, View Synchronization Status or View Job History. When I try to click either of those, I get the following error message, "To Synchronize, you must first create an agent job for this subscription.". Whats weird is that on my other subscription, I dont get this error, I get a screen that comes up with a spinning wheel, with a status that says, Job ' ' (blank being the long name of the job) started successfully. I must of done something differently when going thru the wizard for these subscriptions.

How can I create an agent for a publication after the fact?

Any and All help will be Greatly Appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • just drop the subscriptions and start over. You have missed a step somewhere or selected an option that bypassed the snapshot needed for initialization.

The probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of arrival.
