Good question...had to google it.
I always thought it was leading up to christmas in descending fashion.
However, this site says otherwise. Starts Christmas day and ends on Jan 5.

Not exactly sure. All I know is that it's the day after Christmas.
Can any of our English or Canadian friends on here elaborate?

Boxing Day is the day after Christmas and it is a traditional day off. It is supposed to be when employers gave small presents (boxes) to their staff. I think it was the first bank holiday when all banks were shut.
Anyway we will all get up late (after the excesses of the day before) and then hit the shops (first day of the sales) or go watch a football (soccer) match.

Countdown! I have handed in my resignation 🙂I hope you have a better hole to go to!!
Much closer to home, and a much more varied job - not working for the French! 😉
Working for the French?
Mind me asking where?
In England (Chester) for a French parent company, with a French manager

Good grief, you are only just up the road. I am in Manchester so I could guess who you work for! So which firm are you going to and is it snowing in Chester??

No snow here in Chester, but we were covered in it when I woke up this morning (Liverpool)
I can't name names (you never know who is watching!), but the parent company is big in the hotel trade.
I am moving to a small software house in Warrington

Ah, okay. I've heard about Boxing Day, but never really understood what it was about or how it was celebrated.
I saw a M*A*S*H episode the other day where they celebrated Boxing Day by having officers trade places with enlisted personnel. Is anything similar to that common?

That was supposedly fairly traditional in the big country houses in the UK in Victorian times - the masters would serve dinner to the staff etc
