tlog backup to the system databases

  • hi,

We can take the tlog backup of the databases 'model'.... but not for 'master', 'msdb' and 'model' even after changing the recovery model?

    Thanks.

  • Master no, it can only ever be in simple recovery model, no matter what you set the recovery model to.

Model, yes you can take log backups, why would you bother?

MSDB, yes, you can take log backups, is your job and backup history critical enough to require them?

  • For MSDB, the daily full backup will suffice the pupose of securing the necessary data, why tlog is necessary? am i clear now..

  • Depends on how critical you consider your backup history, job history, etc. Some people consider it critical enough to want full recovery and log backups, some don't.
