    Hi Lynn,

I didn't dismiss your query. I will run it and let you know the outcome. I appreciate your effort.

    Regards

With respect, the fact that you say you will run it tells me you did dismiss my suggested query out of hand without even giving it a try first.

Do you really think that any of us on SSC would purposely provide you with erronous advice? If so, do you think that SSC would be one of the best sites for getting advice, help, suggestions, etc with regard to SQL Server? That it would be the home to at least 6 SQL Server MVP's (if not more)?

The SQL Server community, and especially those of us on SSC, pride ourselves on our willingness to help others with SQL Server and its various components (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, SSSB). None of us would purposely provide anyone with bad advice.

Heh... sometimes when you lead the horse to water... it drowns. 😉

First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • mashikoo,

How much experience with SQL Server do you actually have? What platforms do you usually work with?

"SQL Queries for Mere Mortals" by Addison Wesley press is an excellent resource for people who have limited experience writing SQL Queries. It dissects the SELECT statement and gives you everything you need to know about writing them.

  • Good morning Lynn,

SSC had helped me in the past so I will never dismiss your credibility. The reason I said I will run your suggested query is because I'm still waiting for some permission to the actual dBase. I was told about this project and I thought I should share it with my reputable community. As soon as I run it, I will let you know if it worked or not. Again, I appreciate your effort. I'll keep you abreast!

  • How ironic... Lynn is in pretty much the same postion at his job right now.

How true. Hopefully that will be changing soon.
