Timeout errors for SQL Jobs

  • Hi,

I am getting some timeout errors in the SQL jobs. The jobs fail with this error. SQL version is SQL 2008 R2 SP2.
"Time-outoccurred while waiting for buffer latch type 2 for page (1:383), database ID2."

  • How many jobs does this affect?  How long do they run before you get the error?  What SQL runs to cause the error?  Does this happen intermittently, or every time the jobs run?  Do you capture wait stats on your server?

  • it just started 3days back and happens intermittently after an hour of job runs. It basically updates and inserts the data from one db to otehr db in same server

  • This was removed by the editor as SPAM

  • If it worked fine before and started misbehaving 3 days ago, it sounds more like a NIC or a switch or a cable going/gone bad.  I've had each of those 3 problems in the past.  So has SSC in the past.  Most folks thought I was nuts but the folks at SSC did find a cable that went bad.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
