I will spend part of the weekend thinking about all the men and women who have died protecting my freedom. Thank you to everyone of the past and present who have served our country. I hope everyone takes the time to remember that Freedom isn't Free and these men and women are the reason we can live our lives with the benefits that America provides.
Thank You.

Relax??
My Bosses decided that the 3-day weekend would be a perfect time to take down services and do offline maintenance/optimization.
I'll be working 24/7 until Tuesday morning!

Scott,
No mourning the 'Wings?
I'll be doing some fencing in addition to the scooping. At least if I can get the telephone people to mark the underground wires.

Loading up on SPF 45 to protect my pasty skin and the pasty skin of the kiddos, slapping on some bug spray and nets to protect from the mosquitos and deer flies, pounding some electolyte-laden sports brew to keep from passing out in the warming atmosphere, and fighting traffic to head down to the overcrowded beach with all the tourists.
Err, on second thought, maybe I'll teach the kids to write code. They're 1 1/2 and 4, should be ready to tackle Visual Basic.
Seriously, the soldiers in the Middle East and their families will be in my thoughts this weekend...

This is how I spend my time off. I head to a sod farm and put model gliders up to 1000'... been doing it for almost 35 years.
That's me about ready to launch...

This weekend is for remembering the fallen of wars, especially my childhood friend Lt. Col Kevin M. Shea, KIA 9/14/04. Rest in peace, my friend, we miss you still.
Any other three day weekend is spending time in the workshop, trying to cut wood and not fingers . . .

Typical May weekend here. Our area just "greened up" in the last two weeks after emerging from snow, ice and brown dead stuff everywhere. Now is the time to plant and finish setting up the yard for the season. With about 18-20 hours of useable daylight, one can maximize the time off and actually look forward to next Tuesday for a much needed break!
Also I will be attempting to go out to the church bible camp in a remote area of the state and see if I can get in. The ice on the lake only went out last week and the road may still be going through the "change" . Definitely 4x4 travel at this point. I also know I will have to deal with a large birch tree laying across the road. Chainsaw time!
I will also be visiting a friend in a hospital and remembering that our local Army base lost 9 soldiers this week in Iraq. Each loss stings as the first.
My daughter will be hanging around town instead of going camping with friends. She has donated her services as a Doula to a soldiers wife who is now expecting their second child. She helped another last week with her first. Both husbands are in Iraq.
Others here will be involved in the fishing frenzy that now begins.
I might also enjoy some time learning Halo with my soon to be college freshman son. He kicks my every time but we have fun anyway. We play teams and I have learned not to let him come up behind me when he is low on ammo. I get killed so he can take my ammo!
Don't forget to put your flag up! And remember who makes this all possible, remember who gave all in his service.
