  • Good article.  Thanks for taking the time to write it.

I wonder when people will really reconsider what they've done.  I was both shocked and tickled when I saw the articles at the following "search".

One of my mantra's is "Performance is in the code... or not".

    --Jeff Moden

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Companies want the cheapest and quickest solution.  Often that's "throwing iron" as the article suggests.  The problem with this solution is that it needs to be solved again and again until it reaches some kind of limitation.

On the other hand, the human solution of optimizing the code is generally more expensive but can continue to pay off well down the line.  But even this solution can run into limitations eventually.

The reality is that most problems have multiple aspects.  Knowing this is key to solving problems.  Hitting the right aspect(s) with the right tool(s) is  where the true answer lies.  There's no single magic universal solution.
