  Hi ,

  I ran into the following error when trying to install sql server 2008R2 cluster (node 1) on windows 2008

  The resource failed to come online due to the failure of one or more provider resources. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80071736)

  Any insight on this issue is greatly appreciated

  What resource failed to come online? Are there other failures in the system or application event logs right around the time of that failure?

  I've jsut been batteling with this myself. I've not found exactly what caused the issue, but the follwoing may help:

  I eventually manually created the SPN and suspect, but can't prove it that the SQL Server Service account didn't have rights to create the SPN. The first place I would look is at the domain account being used to run the SQL Server Service.

  After 2 days of batteling I eventually got it working today, but can't identify exactly what caused the issue.
