  We probably need a little bit more information in order to potentially assist in a diagnosis of the issue (and hopefully provide a potential solution) ...

  1) What were you trying to do ? e.g. start a service, run a script in QA, execute a stored procedure in QA, starting ascheduled task, launch an application ?

  2) Where did the error message came from ? e.g. the sql server errorlog, the system event log, the system application log ?

  3) What security credentials are at play ? e.g. user account, local admin account, domain account, etc.
