Oh, and another good one from this year, Changeling (Angelina Jolie, directed by Clint Eastwood). Very good. Not a kid movie.
Wanted (Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman) was quite a good action movie up till about the last fifteen minutes, and then turned into junk.

Here are the movies from 2008 that I highly recommend:
Doubt
The Dark Knight
Juno
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
WALL·E
Kung Fu Panda
Mamma Mia!
I'd also recommend Eagle Eye, Iron Man, and The Hulk. They were very good action movies, but I think The Dark Knight ran away with that category this year.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Hancock, and Wanted had their moments, but overall I was disappointed with them - I'd say they were fun to watch on the big screen, but I don't feel the need to see them again.
Finally, these are some other 2008 movies I thought were pretty good. They may not rate as high with the critics, but I found them enjoyable.
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Definitely, Maybe
27 Dresses
The Spiderwick Chronicles
Baby Mama
Ghost Town
Prom Night
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
Cheers,

Gran Torino is on my list, but I'm not sure I'll see that before it gets out of theaters.
I did see Dark Knight, good in spots, but a bit long for me. We saw 7 Pounds near the end of the year and I figured it out quickly, and thought it was a bit depressing.
Of the kids movies, I liked Ratatouille, and Kung Fu Panda. didn't see Madagascar 2, and thought Wall-E was a strange robot love story. Still the kids liked them all and a few more I had to sit through. The Beverly Hills Chihuahua was a long two hours out of my life.
I think I might need to pick up Slumdog Millionaire and give that a shot. Seems lots of people liked that. I definitely prefer things exploding in my movies, so I'll be looking for some of those.

My middle daughter really liked Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

Benjamin Button - I've often wondered what it would be like to reverse in age!
Dark Knight - Heath Ledger is amazing
Burn After Reading - Quirky and fun
Wall-E
Iron Man
Want to see: Slum Dog & Revolution Road
An oldie: watched 2001 A Space Odyssey the other night...timeless!
I'd say any of the late, great Stanley Kubrick's stuff is a must see (Shining, Clockwork Orange, etc)
another oldie: Das Boot - best movie about submarines (u-boats) ever made! Jurgen Prochnow is perfect for this role.
and one more: The Thin Red Line - not your typical WW II movie...but that's a good thing

Gran Torino is worth seeing if you can. No explosions in Slumdog, but a good ride anyway. I don't think it's on video yet as it's just now in theaters here in the Northwest.
Are you a fan of '24' on TV, Steve? No shortage of things exploding there!

Yeah, I liked the Banana Splits when I was a kid too. I couldn't stand 5 minutes of them now.

I haven't yet seen Slumdog Millionaire or Gran Torino, which I've heard are great. They're on my short list.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Milk. This is a excellent film and Sean Penn is great (as always).
