The OLE DB connection manager could not be edited.

  • This problem has just started happening.

I am unable to create or edit a new OLEDB or ADO connection in SSIS.

Existing connections that were already created can be added to the package but clicking the NEW button or double clicking on an existing conection results in this error message:

"The OLE DB connection manager could not be edited. No error message available, result code: E_FAIL(0x80004005). (System.Data)"

Connections that cannot be edited still work when the package runs and I am able to edit components which use these connections and preview data from them. I simply cannot add new connections or edit the component via the connections manager panel or when I try and open the connection string in the connection properties window.

This problem is not related to my user account or a specific package. All users on my PC are affected and so are all packages both existing and new.

Really need to find a solution to this. Can anyone help?

  • If anyone else encounters this, I have found that is caused but a corrupt MDAC installation. Instructions to fix can be found here:

  • Thanks man, will file under the references section of my favorites

  • I have the same problem and it is because of MDAC. Repair worked. Thanks
