For my own laptop I use prey software[/url] which is a paid subscription (for three devices) but there is a free service.
My own company laptop isn't worth stealing for the data itself (would never, ever store any client data on it, encrypted or otherwise) but obviously stuff that means alot to me.

Some of us don't have the professional version of Windows on our personal laptops. In my case, I use DiskCryptor, an open source full disk encryption solution. Once installed, it takes a few hours to encrypt the disk, depending on how much data. Once done, it will prompt for a password at bootup, but other than that it's totally transparent. I've been using it for a couple of years, and never had an issue with it. It simply works.

I use the laptop to VPN to work, but even with encryption, I never copy work related data or documents to my laptop. With VPN, RDP, and wireless WAN, there simply is no reason to do that, ever.
