I did check that...not a stupid question actually as I'm still a bit new to SQL. We had an Index Maint. job that ran at 1:00 a.m. Backup started at 12:00 a.m., but failed immediately. As a side note the index maint. was failing as well because it was being done (or attempted to be done) online and some of the indexes had fields that prevented them from being inluded in an online index. We've moved that maint. off line, excluded the fullt text catalog during the midnight backup (as it can be rebuilt after the database is restored in a disaster). But still puzzeling why it's offline at 12:00 a.m. but online at 12:00 p.m. :w00t:

anything in the error log? Perhaps run a trace overnight to look for things?
Logs only show the backup failure error. Trace is my next step I guess.
