I enjoyed it but the answer about changing the SQL Login has me confused.
The answer says use an UPDATE query on the SysLogins table and then also says manual updates on passwords aren't allowed because the passwords are encrypted?
Isn't that contradictory?
I didn't get the one about changing the service login in control panel and your server not starting. I thought the service login HAS to be a local domain admin. I don't have any logins called SQLExec in any of my SQL Servers but this is what my SQL Services use to login.
I have to admit that I made a couple of stupid mistakes on this through skim reading.
I don't come from a Windows Admin background so I've absolutely no idea what a UDP port is and I've never even heard of a C2 audit.

Much egg on face I've just re-read the question and it says which is not a valid method.

I think it was too easy. After all, if I could ace it, it must be too easy. Thanks to all for putting it together.
Great job! You're only 1 of 5 right now that can state that then If you go to http://www.sqlservercentral.com/testcenter , you can see how you stacked up to other DBAs.

The test questions were good. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to more tests like this.

Great Test, a little short maybe.
Both the C2 audit questions I had got me, since I have never used it. (Learn something every day)

Was surprised not to see any question about SPN and kerberos authentification. But you only see this in an Active Directory environment. A lot of companies are still NT 4.0.

I've got no numbers to backup this statement but I think more people use AD than C2 Auditing. And more will use it in the future as people upgrade from NT4.
NT4 (shudder). Reminds me of blue screens and paranoia from lack of sleep. (yeah, I had NT4 servers run smoothtly too, but it was a lot more work to stabilize NT4 than Win2k). At least win2k is stable. And Win2k3 *seems* even more stable (ask me again in 6 months).

Brian,
This page could not be found (23 May 1000 EST): http://www.sqlservercentral.com/testcenter
And I'm curious to see how I did against others.

The page in your posting can be found, although not in Brian's posting because of the ',' at the end of the link. Eliminate it and it works.
Maybe Brian should edit his posting?
Cheers,

Sorry about that, I had a comma after TestCenter and it was screwing it all up. You can click on Test Center above to get to the area.

I enjoyed the test even though I didn't pass.

Thanks for the opportunity. It was a nice quicky review and I hope more of them are in the works. I am working on my MCDBA cert and any review is helpful.

I can like a person. People are arrogant, ignorant, idiotic, irritating and mostly just plain annoying.

Enjoyed the test, and learned a few things too. I've been working with SQL many years and there's always more to learn, that's what I love about it.
Just my 2c on a few posts back: I've never had the need to play with C2 security, but have had a devil of a time trying to get Kerebos to work (truth be told, I haven't gotten it working). Not trying to stray off topic but would like to hear some pointers from anyone that has.
Back to relevance, it would've been nice to see the weightings of the individual questions. (or maybe I just missed it somewhere...) I have no idea how it came up with mark it gave me. But I passed .. barely .. so no complaints!
More tests please!!
Regards,
Randy

Could I bounce an idea by you guys since this is a smaller group? We're looking at a few different new newsletter formats. One of the formats that I drafted last night can be seen here: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/newsletter/newsletterdailybeta.htm .
We're hoping to have a test question a day and keep track of everyone's answers for larger competition for pride :). The content in the sample is fake so look for concept not content at this time. We're going for more inline content.

Format looks good.
For the 'submit' to work on the question, would you need to be logged into the site,
or does it work by posting the email address?

Hi Brian,
a daily newsletter will be a great idea and I think a must-have. There are several sites out there offering this feature. If I can help in any way just drop a mail offline
Cheers,
Frank
