  Hi,

  I recently had a problem with an application that frequently updates a Text field. The Text field holds a large amount of XML data (eg..40 mbs) and when the record has been processed by the application, it will update the record with something quite smaller (5 kb). When that happens, does the text field hold onto the space it used prior to the update statement (40 mbs)?

  It shouldn't hold on those pages. I am not a storage guru, but my experience shows this to be true.

  This is something you could actually test fairly easily.
