Testing Matters

  • There is a difference between MS, Google, eBay and the rest that you ignored. The go live was October 1, 2013. So the developers had about three years to get it right for day one. In that time frame they should have had ample time for capacity testing, QA and all the rest.

The design is also completely backwards from a normal e-tailer setup, even for something like car insurance.

Go to get a quote and they want your name, address, and some other minimal to give you a rough quote for car insurance. You don't have to create an account or give out stuff that could get your life hijacked. John McAfee on Cavuto: "Obamacare Is A Hacker's Wet Dream"

Then go to Amazon without an account and you can look at something and get the price before ever admitting you have been there before.

I'm not going into the rest of the stuff. But the three years without a capacity test? How incompetent can you be?

A little bit of this and a little byte of that can cause bloatware.

Well, they are just beginning to show us.

There's no reason to skip security testing of any large scale application that deals with PII data, no matter whether it's public or private site.

I agree. That is inexcusable. That should be Broadcast on the front page of the site as well so people understand the risk before using the site.

  • The largest difference between MS, Google, eBay and the rest is that we are all being forced to enter our data on this site. There truly is no comparison to private organizations and a government site where all types of the most personal information is stored.

I agree with you Jim, 3 years and 698 mil dollars is more than enough time and money to get these most basic kinks ironed out.

  • They had a hard date to meet and they had to release it in what ever state it was in. This is a project fail of unprecedented proportions. The pitch line 'you get to keep your insurance if you like it' was a lie. Now they say it will be ready by December 1st. I got a bridge to sell ya lol

  • quick, get an army of contractors to work 24x7. oops, Snowden'd

  • hey, now thats an idea... it could be open source lol

  • The failures so far have been more political fighting than technical. Does anyone know where to look up the relative performance of the different exchanges that have been set up?

I have heard a few of the exchanges work well. I went through the Colorado exchange for a quote and it worked well for me. I have had an account at the national exchange.

Technically, I have a friend that worked on the CO project. As with many projects, they couldn't get it done on time. The deadline was too short, and with so many contractors, things went slow. However there were offline procedures set up for places where the process is not complete online.
