Tempdb shrink log not releasing available free space

  • Good Morning Experts,

I am trying to shrink tempdb log file but it is not releasing space to OS. There are no active transactions in tempdb

It is saying available free space 97%(1991 MB), but when i select Release unused space and click OK , nothing is happening. Please let me know why it is not releasing the free space.

With that option, it would execute: DBCC SHRINKFILE (N'templog' , 0, TRUNCATEONLY). And that option only works on data files.
The size doesn't seem that large though - why do you want to shrink it? Shrinking is pretty much a bad idea and usually isn't needed.
