There are a lot of articles and info about creating multiple data files for the tempdb (based on cpu/core count) on different disks for performance. My question is about the ldfs of the tempdb. Is there any significant advantage to putting the ldf on a different drive than the database ldfs (I assume there is based on same db ldf logic) as well as any advantage to adding additional ldfs based on cpu?
Lastly I am wondering about good sizing guide for the tempdb. I have a new db server to plan for and trying to decide on design as well as space for tempdb. With no trending or historical I am not sure how large to make the tempdb space. It will be a large sharepoint installation.

The tempdb should be on seperate spindles than the rest of the databases..
As far as sizing.. Just shooting from the hip, why not start with 10GB total space for tempdb, broken to 1.25GB slices for an 8 core box.. It you need to increase is later then so be it. Allocate space like 50GB total for the drive so you have space to grow..
Debate?
