Taskpad View in EM

Quick question.
Has anyone figured out how to make the taskpad view the default view in Enterprise Manager? Just one of those little annoying things...

I haven't - I was mightily confused when trying to talk someone through a procedure I wanted them to carry out. They were in Belgium, I had no sight of their Server and I was looking at SQL Server 7, whilst they were looking at 2000!
I kept asking them to do things, and I'm sure they thought I was mad, because they were not looking at taskpad view, but I was! Eventually I figured out that they were looking at a different view of the world ( I speak very little French and thier English, whilst better than my French, consisted mainly of agreeing with me, regardless of the fact that they hadn't a clue what I was speaking about!)
I have just learnt to live with it now, but must admit that the first thing I do is change to taskpad view!

I believe the changes are saved to SQL Server Enterprise Manager.MSC, or whatever MSC you're passing to MMC.exe. I don't see it altering the registry when I change to/from the taskpad view. It's a binary file, so either have to figure out the format or find the API - I know they published an SDK for MMC a while back, have not looked at it. A hack work around would be to send keystrokes to the app to set it.

So in other words, there is no easy way to do it without compiling my own MMC plug in.
In SQL 7.0 EM it was standard install. After SQL 2000 EM, it seems as if that functionality is disabled. You can't even switch it and have it stay in taskpad view. It always seems to revert back to standard view.
According to TechNet there are a few bugs with the MMC taskpad view in EM. Appearantly they didn't feel as if it was a "showstopper", so they probably coded it non-default for go live of SQL2K.

It was buggy and IMHO, that is why they made it the non-default.
Probably a registry setting, but I have no idea which one.
