Speaking of the Reds, I had to watch this clip 10 times before I could tell for sure what happened.Brilliant piece of fielding by Phillips to get that double play going.
At second/third/fourth look, did shortstop really have his foot on the base when he caught the ball coming in from Philips?
In watching it live on TV I believe he did.
Phillips made a bare handed grab on a high chopper to throw out a guy at first last night. MLB highlights doesn't have it though. Another great play.
seems as though he made an inside the park home run on a ground ball to left. They ruled it a double then an error then run scored and not a true inside the park home run. Official scorers are making some news recently. Changing no-hitters into 1 hitters by not calling an error then this one calling it an error when it clearly bounced off the wall never being touched by the fielder.
Here's his bare hand grab

Home parks 'tend' to have a somewhat questionable call go for their team. In this one that is an un-earned run if it is a double and two base error instead of adding to his bloated ERA. I was in the car listening to that play so I didn't see Johnny Damon field it.

Let's talk minor leagues! The NY-Penn League (short season single-A) started their season this past week!
I just got tickets to tonight's home opener for the Tri-City ValleyCats (Houston Astros affiliate)! Am picking up a friend and his son after work, then heading to the game!
Sing it with me . . . "Take me out to the ballgame . . . !" :hehe:
(Edit: spelling!)

Cool....
Speaking of Minor league baseball look at THESE stats:
Billy Hamilton, low Single A for the Cincinnati Reds.
66 games and 80 stolen bases!
I know... it is Single A baseball... but he stole a ton of bases last year as well.

And he just got robbed while in Winston-Salem for the all star game. I watched him play his rookie ball in Billings quite a few times, he's got the potential to be an amazing ball player.

Yes, just read the article about him. He will most likely have to change positions if he is to be in the Majors with the Reds. They have a rookie at SS that appears to have the job won now.

I remember he played a few games at 2nd in rookie ball. I think to get a kid name Lohman some reps at short? I don't know if he's played anymore since then.

Listening to Yankees vs. Braves via streaming audio while working. Phillip Hughes has given up four home runs. Not sure how much longer I should listen!

Hang in there, Ray. The Yankees are only down by 2 in the 7th.

Wow. So Kevin Youkilis changes the color of his Sox.
That surprises me. I thought he was going to be a fixture in Boston.

They have a rising superstar at AAA and Youkilis has not been the same player as in the past few years.

I see Tanyon Sturtze made it to the roster of the Yankees upcoming Old Timers Game.[/url] I was also surprised to see Strawberry on there. I guess I didn't know he was still alive/out of prison/still remotely involved with anything baseball.
Edit: Wow after reading up on Strawberry it looks like he has turned his life around quite a bit since his days in the late 90s to mid 2000s. I guess he does some commentary on SportsNet in New York and has quite a few charitable endevors. Good for him.

Yep, good for him. Middlebrooks has been outstanding for us and shows lots of promise. It is a changing of the guard, watching Youk (33) groom Middlebrooks for 3rd base. It's good to see Youk already has his first hit as a White Sock.

I just noticed: the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox are 38-35 and in last place in the AL East.
If they played in the AL Central, they'd be tied for first with the White Sox!
Is the AL East that good, or the AL Central that bad?
Go figure!
