Just came across an interesting article: will the NL adopt the DH?
Discuss.

I have NEVER liked the DH personally. I am sure the players union will get it in the NL eventually though.

Personally I like the DH and the offense it brings. With the specialization of pitchers hitting only once a week, it's almost like a wasted out in most cases and I'd rather they weren't in there.

Traditionally I always disliked the DH and the style of baseball it promotes. But I've always been frustrated with a pitcher's lack of ability at the plate and the fallout from that: wasted out, 8th place hitter issues etc.
Since pitchers haven't improved at the plate, I guess it makes sense to replace them with a bat and get more offense. It's not true baseball IMO.

Either way I think it is pretty stupid to have different rules between the two leagues, make it the same for both leagues. Although I would take the more traditionalist route of scrapping the DH because I prefer the strategy and the "game within a game" it brings. I find it more exciting to see the decision making in a 1-1 game if the starting pitcher is due up with a runner in scoring position than I do to see a big burly guy who can barely run come out and bop one over the fence.

I'll admit that I'm torn over the DH.
As someone who "claims" to be a baseball pureist, having the pitcher hit definitely makes for a more strategic game. It's how it was meant to be played.
At the same time, I grew up (and still am) an American League fan, so I grew up with the DH. These days, it seems like asking the pitcher to hit is like asking a quarterback to also play defense. I agree with the earlier post that says the rules should be the same in each league. Change happens, so I suppose even baseball needs to roll with it.

So the other day I was surfin' the intarwebs and I had a baseball game on in the background, I don't even remember who was playing. I realized how much I missed the sounds of the game which surprisingly included the commentators. Just the hum drum non-stop blabbing about stats and players and baseball related trivia was great! I've come to enjoy local station broadcasting more than cable channel talkers. Last night was a New York/Boston game and it was a YES broadcast on the MLB channel. The local sports station just seems to know a whole lot more about their team than the broadcast heads. Makes it more interesting I guess.
anyway, yay baseball!

Interesting. I guess Andy got bored at home with the wife and kids . . .

For those of you looking for an alternative to the Northwind database for testing, it looks like Sean Lahman has come up with a SQL version of his baseball database[/url]! (I prefer using this for testing over Northwind -- for reasons that my fellow baseball fans will find obvious! :-))
Warning: I tried to open it in SQL, and it's taking forever to open, so you may need to exercise patience with it!

So the MLB channel had a weekend marathon of spring training awesomeness! I was able to watch a few games which was great, one of which was the New York/Washington game with the YES broadcasters. They had Mr. Cashman on and discussing yankees affairs, one of which was the pettitte situation. Signed to the minors for now. Interesting he would come back for a minor league contract. My bet is they won't even use him unless one of their starters gets injured.

Pettite is a nice insurance possibility. I'd like to see him work out, throw, take it easy overall, come up for injury, but be available in the post season. He's money there.

Andy P. seems to have baseball in his blood doesn't he... he can be tempted with a contract for more time pitching.

I could possibly be tempted with a 2.5 million dollar contract to pitch in AA... 😛
