The Rays have it easy. They're playing an AAA team right now. The O's on the other hand are playing spoiler. They'll do anything and everything in their power, including paying off umpires, to win.
It is quite exciting though. Will be an amazing night of baseball all around the MLB!
LET'S GO RED SOX!

Really?
...
...
...
Geez. Let me soak it in.
Alright. I can blame injuries to varitek, salty, youklis, etc but I won't. I can blame papplebon for blowing 1 save this year which just happened to be the most important save of the year, but I won't. I can blame tito's management style for being slow to react and stubborn with keeping certain under-performing players on the field, but I won't. I could blame the rain delay for stopping Boston's momentum, but I won't. I could blame the umpires for bad calls which cost the Sox an out here and an out there or a run or two over the series, but I won't.
Me as a Red Sox fan:
You know who I blame? NEW YORK! Freakin' wanks maaaaaaan. 11 pitchers in one game? of their 40 man expanded roster, they played the bottom 9 for the last week. Seriously, since when do the wanks blow a 7 run lead? That NEVER happens (alright, it rarely happens). They bring in who to close? while big-time MO sits on his folding chair in right field. Yes, I blame the wanks for blowing the last couple series with the Rays. I think they planned this whole thing because they know they can beat the Rays but have had trouble with Boston all year. What a corrupt and greedy money grubbin' buy-my-championships team!
Me as a rational individual:
I can't blame any one person for Boston not making it in the post season this year. It was truly a team failure. 7-20 for the month of September with a blown 9 game lead for the wildcard spot. The bullpen was shady all September and just couldn't defend a lead. I think the offense was solid for the most part, it's just tough to make up the difference when your bullpen is giving up 7+ runs per game loss. 4 of the 7 wins had Boston scoring 12 or more runs which means if they didn't score big, they were more likely to lose. Hopefully we can make some improvements in the bullpen and perhaps switch out a couple starters who were hyped up but never delivered.
We need to lock down Ellsbury, Salty, Varitek and Scutaro. Let Wake retire, drop McDonnald and Albers. Guess we're stuck with Crawford (gag). I'm on the fence about Ortiz and Drew. Ortiz is a good clutch hitter, but that's about it. He's not a home run machine and definitely not a threat on base. Drew, his performance has never really impressed me. And then there's Mr. Francona. Won a couple World Series but hasn't shown tremendous leadership since. He's kinda been going downhill. I guess if you can find a stellar manager, replace him. Otherwise, give him another year.
I think I'm done. I'll be rooting for the Tigers.
I'm going to go cry now. 🙁

Last night had to be THE most exciting day of the regular season in my lifetime... and I am a Red's fan. Exciting down to the end... WOW.
All I can say is that every game counts even though some say it is a 162 game season... The Red Sox and the Braves didn't have to come down to an elimination like that... a couple of games won earlier in the season and they would have been in. Those games in April do count.
Man... my head is spinning... what an exciting way to end the season for the game.

I would have loved to have had the Braves come to Milwaukee. That would have been fun. But, we have the Diamondbacks which is good, too. I don't know if I'd rather meet up against the Phillies or the Cards. (of course I'm figuring on demolishing the snakes)

No kidding! I can't believe the come backs last night. This week has been a roller coaster.

Totally agree. When Boston went 2-10 to start the season everyone said "oh it's april, they'll be fine!" But I agree with you. Every game DOES count and that's why I think it's a team failure that they are post-seasonless and not on any one person's shoulders.
It was very exciting, and not just one division but all around the league.

Oh. My.
I stayed up late last night to watch the (Yanks/Rays) game. Too bad I don't get NESN so I couldn't switch back and forth between the two.
I loved how ESPN SportsCenter recapped the games last night. Instead of covering them a game at a time (like they usually do), they had footage of both games side by side, and switched back and forth. "Here's what happened in Tampa Bay. Meanwhile, at the same time, this was going on in Baltimore . . . "
VERY exciting end to the season. I don't think even Hollywood would've scripted it like that. It had to be seen to believed. This might go down in history, along with the '51 Giants/Dodgers ("The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant . . . !!!") as one of the all-time greatest endings to a regular season.

I disagree. This was a terrible ending to the season.

I've got to say I'm a huge Phillies fan. Wearing my Phillies shirt today, in fact. Was born and raised in South Jersey, 5 miles from Philly so I have been a fan since the 70s with Steve Carlton, Mike Schmidt, etc... Went to many games as a kid until I moved away to middle earth, Nebraska. I've been planning trips to see them when they are in the general area (KC, Chicago, Colorado), but it never seems to work out. It's tough trying to leave teenagers home alone! My liquor cabinet will never be the same!

Condolences. The Phils didn't look too hot last night, giving up that lead to the Cards.

Thanks for the condolences. Usually it's the other way around - Phils do great against relief pitchers. But there are 3 more games to play. It ain't over 'til it's over!

Let's review the post-season so far.
ALDS
Detroit leads NY in the series 2-1.
Texas is up on Tampa 2-1
NLDS
Phillidelphia leads the Cardinals 1-1
Milwaukee up 2-0 over Arizona.
Favorites going into the season were Philly and Boston in the world series. How crazy would it be to see Milwaukee and Detroit vie for the championship? With Detroit, Texas, and Milwaukee all needing only 1 more win to move on to the ALCS/NLCS do you think they can clinch tonight?
Would you consider any of these wins as upset wins?
