Talking baseball

  • Giants can't hit and surprisingly are having a tough time pitching. They had a similar April last year.

Long season...but I hate to have to tell all my friends that "I told you so" when they can't generate enough offense to win again.

Glad you got to the new stadium, Ray. I hope to get there at some point.

That was actually the fourth time I've been to the new Stadium (yes, we Yankee fans refer to it with a capital S); I've been to three Yankee games, and was there in December to see my alma mater play in the Pinstripe Bowl.

I like what they did with the new ballpark -- great sight lines, wide variety of dining/concession options, and unlike the old Stadium, you can see the field from all the walkways, which are also much wider. However, I have many fond memories of the old Stadium; I even had a chance to walk on the outfield grass when I was in high school!

If you ever get to the new Stadium, make sure you check out the Yankee Museum, which is on the second deck on the right field side. Some good historical stuff in there that anyone can appreciate, even if you're not a Yankee fan; even my Red Sox fan wife enjoyed it! Also check out Monument Park; it's only open for a limited time up to two hours before the game, so I'd suggest checking that out early.

  • It's good to see my Giants wake up this weekend. Looks to me as though the NL West is a two-horse race (SF and Colorado), and no, Steve, I don't think a three-game sweep means the Rockies will crumble ;-), just that SF has to tune its game to accomodate injuries (Torres, Sandoval) and the roster changes since 2010 (Tejada to third, Fontenot to short, does Belt come back up to the show?).

  • Fontenot and Vogelsong...who knew? =p

I'm amazed that MLB is even allowing Joe West to ump any Red Sox or Yankee games.

  • *With the realization that the Red Sox have a .500 record and are not in first place, I say this only from a rivalristic (did I just make up that word?) perspective*

I've have this song stuck in my head all night and just can't shake it. Goes a little something like this...

"How sweep it is to be swept by you."

and don't blame the loss on a posadistraction.

Last I checked, we were still ahead in the standings! 😛

  • The Rockies are still in 2nd in the West, but the worst record in the NL after the 11-2 start. Not sure they'll be in things this fall if they can't start hitting and the bulley can't pitch.

  • 1 game... puh-lease!

My brother-in-law is a huge wanks fan and said he'd take me to a wanks Sox game this year. Why oh why couldn't it have been this weekend!!!

Even when it's a 2 run game, you just never know. Each team has stellar players and could change the game... hang on, let me tie my shoe... in a heartbeat. Bottom of the 9th Rodriguez gets a base hit, Cano slaps a 2 run homer and it's on! But alas, they didn't 😀

And to prove I'm more of a Red Sox fan than a Yankee hater, I'll be hoping they sweep the Rays today and tomorrow. Gets us a little closer to first.

That's nothing. My wife is a Red Sox fan. It is, indeed, a mixed marriage! 😀 During the season, one of us ends up (figuratively) sleeping on the couch!

Yeah, never any dull moments when they hook up! I've lost track of the number of fun moments I've seen in the Yanks-BoSox series!

Personal favorite: I was at the Stadium for the Yanks-BoSox game where, just as the batter (I don't remember whom) supposedly popped up to end the game, the kid ran onto the field and time was called. The Yanks rallied back, and Donnie Baseball came through with the game-winning single! (And because of that game, I won my annual bet with a buddy of mine -- another Sox fan!)

And to prove I'm more of a Red Sox fan than a Yankee hater, I'll be hoping they sweep the Rays today and tomorrow. Gets us a little closer to first.

True, but even then, we'll still be ahead of you! 😀

One game behind the yankees in second is better positioning than three games behind the Rays in third.

Think big picture, Mr. K, big picture.

    Killebrew ends his cancer fight

Sad news, indeed. As a Giants fan, I rarely crossed the bay to an Athletics game and never did see Harmon play, but his style and power were impressive. I chose to wear a number 3 jersey on our beer-league softball team out of respect for Giant Bill Terry and for Harmon Killebrew, even more than for the Babe.

I can only hope and pray that his last days are comfortable and that he is buoyed by the love of family and fans.
