It would be a HUGE boost for Texas to close it out tonight in the Yankee's own park..... with CC pitching or not.

Giants up 2-1, I'm slowly starting to believe....
Matt Cain finally got his "big league moment", 7 innings of shutout ball.

Okay, let's see a show of hands: how many of you, at the beginning of the season, predicted that the World Series would be the Texas Rangers vs. the San Francisco Giants?
Edit: or, for that matter, at the beginning of the playoffs?

Correct me if I'm wrong -- if I'm not mistaken, I believe the last time the Giants won the World Series, they were still the New York Giants. Is that true?
Either way, we'll have a first-time World Series winner (not counting the Giants' time in New York)!

I watched the last 4 innings Sat night of the Giants/Phillies game. Fantastic ending. Can't believe that Howard didn't swing. He'll be thinking about that for a long, long time.

I believe the last time they won the World Series was in the 1950's sweeping the Indians... Willie Mays was the standout player... 1954 maybe?

Yeah, '54 when they were in New York. Second oldest winless streak to the Cubs, IIRC.
I don't know anything about the Rangers, 'cept that the Giants traded Bengie Molina to them mid-season. Bengie, by the way, has been integral to their success, so fun story to watch.

The Cleveland Indians have not won the World Series since 1948.
The lost in 1954 (Giants), 1995 (Braves), 1997?? (Marlins)

I don't know anything about the Rangers
The Rangers had never been to the World Series until this year. They began life in 1961 as the expansion Washington Senators (the team that replaced the original Senators franchise that became the Minnesota Twins), and they moved to Dallas/Ft. Worth in (I think it was) 1971.
It took them 50 years to get to their first World Series, which (I believe) was the longest time between their first year of existence and their World Series debut.

At the beginning of the year? Not me. Come playoff time, I had a feeling about Texas. Don't know that I would've bet against the Phiilies though.

the Giants traded Bengie Molina to them [the Rangers] mid-season.
And because of that, he'll earn a World Series ring, no matter which team wins!

That's pretty cool. I'm sure he'd rather have one with the Rangers. Getting one from the Giants would feel a little bittersweet.

This would be an interesting trivia question:
How many players have been traded from one team to another in which both teams went to the World Series in the current season? I am sure we will hear that during the World Series broadcast. I would imagine that is VERY rare.
