Journeyman knuckleballer R A Dickey, currently washed up on the beach in AAA Buffalo, had himself a night last evening.
Here's the story:
Buffalo (WKBW.com) Bisons pitcher R.A. Dickey threw a one-hit shutout as Buffalo blanked Durham 4-0 on Thursday night. Dickey gave up a lead off hit to the Bulls Fernando Perez in the first, and then retired the final 27 batters in a row. The performance that was a modern era record for the Bisons. Dickey finished the night with 6 strikeouts.

I'm guessing his mound opponent was Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh, and his last out was Crash Davis. 😀

Steve Jones - Editor (4/28/2010)I'm hitting .375. Went 3-3 last week, 3HR, BB, so I'm hot. A nice game after an 0-5, BB start before that.
Nice! You're going to have to start posting your stats!
Or better, import them into SSIS? 😀

0-4 this week. Popout, fly out, FC, K. Not so good today on a chilly, rainy day in May.

I get the impression that Ozzie Guillen would like to do the same to his leadoff hitters! 😀

That's crazy. All over the news today on the radio. I think I am in favor of this, though I haven't thought it all the way through. No reason for people to be running on the field.
May 4, 2010 at 12:25 pm
And once some of the fools who think about running onto the field, they may have a change of mind when they see guys on the ground, twitching and drooling and possibly losing bodily fluids, before they actually run onto the field. Granted there are enough fools who don't care (15 seconds of fame, I guess) but I'm sure a lot of them would think twice before attempting it.
Now, having said that, the flip side would be if the tasered person went into some sort of fit and died or was permanently impaired - can you say lawsuit?
Obviously pros and cons either way. Personally, use 'em!

A few years ago a guy ran out onto the field during a Twins game and started playing around while the middle-aged security guys plodded after him. It wasn't particularly fair until he strayed a bit too close to the Twins' bat boy. Normally you wouldn't give a bat boy a second thought as you were out dodging the police, but in this case it was a bad miss. The bat boy, that day anyway, turned out to be a very serious college wrestler. It ended suddenly...
EDIT: It was June 15, 2006, and the bat boy was 25 year old Nate Reese, a former high school wrestler and college rugby player. From the wire story: After a headfirst slide into home, the visiting team bat boy slammed him to the turf with a perfect open-field tackle and pinned him down until security arrived. “As soon as the guy rounded third, there weren’t any guards around, so I thought I’d hit him.”

My take: Painting a picture
Nice Steve. I listen to the Cubs on the radio every Sunday with my mom (she despises the TV). She loves the team and the announcers - amd I have to admit, it's kind of a throw back to a slower-paced, simpler time. I wonder if some of the announcers truly know the impact they have on the people listening? I Know Ernie had to have but probably downplayed his impact as simply storytelling.

Very nice. Great sentiment.
Alas, there was another baseball related death today . . .

Here's another commentary by Doug Glanville[/url]. This one might even be somewhat appropriate for SSC, since he talks about information overload.

And a perfect game for Moneyball. Very cool and wish I'd been able to see it.
