I read that story yesterday, and thought it was sad. Ichiro has always been one of my favorite players who didn't wear Yankee pinstripes (other than those three seasons he was in New York). It seems like people forget that ballplayers are people, too. I've always admired Ichiro, but after reading this story, I feel a lot more empathy for him.

I think he's a broken man, and will struggle post baseball. I hope he can put that off for a time. He's got an obsession, which is why he's great.
At the same time, I think he's truly one of the all time, phenomenal greats. One that might be top 10 ever in many ways. Glad I saw him play and would like to see him get another chance this year in MLB.

Summer90 - Tuesday, March 6, 2018 10:51 AMTo me the stolen base is more exciting than a Home Run.
Agreed. Remembering Rickey Henderson back in the mid-80s, no one was more dynamic. Speed plus power.

One thing in the article that got me was this:
Last year, a Miami newspaperman asked what he planned on doing after baseball.
"I think I'll just die," Ichiro said.
I'm really hoping that this isn't prophetic. I don't want to see him become the Robin Williams of baseball. If it comes to that point -- and I really hope it doesn't -- I hope he gets the help he needs. Unfortunately, Asian culture generally has this thing about not asking for help or not admitting failure. Speaking as an Asian-American, I've seen stuff like that come into play way too often.

So here's a conversation topic for my fellow baseball fans. First, a little background...
I was in my car the other day, and a radio ad came on: "Ron Guidry, on the Hall of Fame." My first thought was, is he pushing for inclusion? (As it turned out, he was actually pitching a tourism ad to get visitors to come to Cooperstown.)
So that got me thinking: I think Guidry is deserving of enshrinement in Cooperstown, but it'd probably be up to the Veterans Committee (or something like that).
So with that, my question: who are the best players who are eligible for the HoF (that is, not banned or on probation, such as Pete Rose or Shoeless Joe, or not yet retired for five years, such as Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, etc.) who are not in the HoF?
Discuss!

Yeah, I don't like it. It's not baseball. I'd be fine with doing what hockey used to do and just allowing ties. We can sort out rankings with tiebreakers.
Ultimately, I'd really just like substitutions and play the game. No reason someone coming out can't go back in.

I may or may not have posted this video before, but I love this! I never get sick of watching it!
My favorite part is the relay throw home, the play at the "plate," and the argument that ensues!
Baseball season starts tomorrow! Woo-hoo!!!

Glad to see my Yankees are finally breaking out of their funk!

Cue the smart ones in that category that recognized long ago that bashing the Skankees was beneath them.
And besides, they aren't even worthy of a good tongue-lashing...
