I'll have to do some research before committing to any predictions, except two
1. Red Sox will win the World Series!
2. Arod and Jlo will break up before the all-star break

Markus - Wednesday, April 5, 2017 6:21 AMMy Reds are gonna stink.... I think the Indians are going to be major playoff contenders.... Sigh.....Cool on Madison Bumgarner hitting two home runs on Opening Day.
Since the season has started... Who wants to start predictions.... Playoff contenders, W Series matchups.... HR leaders... Batting AVG leaders... Surprise players and teams.......
Shooting from the hip here....
Lets go with Houston, Cleveland, and Toronto as division winners in the AL, LA, Chicago, and NY in the NL. Seattle, Boston and San Fran and St Louis as the wild Cards. Nelson Cruz and Nolan Arenado as HR leaders in each league and Jose Altuve and Corey Seager as the batting champs.
Surprise teams, I think the Braves will be a lot better. Won't be contending for the playoffs, but they will be around a .500 team which will be quite the improvement from last year. Staying in the same division, I'm gonna say the Nationals don't even come close to making the playoffs this year. Like out of contention before mid-September.
As for surprise players, I don't know much of young kids outside of the Cubs, but the Benintendi kid in Boston has impressed me, what little I've seen. I'd pencil him in for AL ROY. Sticking with what I do know, I will say that Addison Russell will finish with 25-30 homers this season, not sure if that counts a surprise or not.
Go ahead and save all these and laugh at me in 5-6 months.

Rockies and Yankees both playing .600 ball and leading their divisions as we approach Memorial Day. Don't expect it to last, but somewhat excited for now.

I'm a baseball guy. Played a good portion of my life, including 10 years as an adult. I've enjoyed the game, and while I appreciate the history, there are things I'd like to see changed.
Coming home tonight, I heard two people debating the Harper incident. A pitcher threw at a batter, and the batter charged the mound. A fight ensued, and the benches cleared. You can read here: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/19499351/bryce-harper-washington-nationals-suspended-four-games-hunter-strickland-san-francisco-giants-six
The first guy, an ex-NFL player, said that the whole process is silly. Anyone coming off a bench should be suspended as well. In every other sport, that happens. There's also no reason to throw at someone for staring at you, not running fast enough, or any of the other silly reasons pitchers get upset. Actually the team as well.
The second guy, supports the benches clearing, saying it's part of the baseball code. He's not an athlete, but has kids playing high level baseball. He also doesn't want to see a 1-on-9 situation when there's an issue.
I think throwing at a batter is silly, at a minimum, and really assault. You throw at me, I'm taking the bat out there and putting you down. My take is batters (or runners) throwing a punch get suspended. The umpire and go out there and give instructions to stop. Each time he does so, we get a multiplier of the suspension. The individual causing issues gets suspended as well, but pitchers get 3x the suspension. They've got a deadly weapon in their hands, and throwing at someone purposely shouldn't be tolerated.
Anyone off the bench, bullpen, or that joins the fight gets a 2x suspension.
No fighting in baseball.

FWIW baseball may be speeding up: http://www.espn.com/blog/buster-olney/insider/post/_/id/16805/olney-baseball-keeps-getting-slower-but-change-will-come-by-2018.
I'd like to see some of this. I prefer fast pitchers when I'm batting, and I certainly think 20+ seconds between pitches is a lot.

Pete still banned: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/19642901/national-baseball-hall-fame-upholds-rule-banning-pete-rose-consideration-election
I think he needs to get in, but I'm OK with it being postmortem as punishment if that's what the HoF decides.

Such an unlikeable doink (Rose). It would have to be postmortem and include adding Joe Jackson -- go crazy, even put the steroid era. The shame wing of the HOF. 😉

Potentially, if the Tigers have any sense, they'll get something decent for Verlander. But the local sports talk radio host I listen too, doesn't think Al Avila (the GM) has the chops to get a good deal for *anyone* in a trade...

I understand that Yu Darvish is available. Trouble is, he's going to cost a king's ransom.

So now that baseball season is coming down to the wire, any thoughts about the postseason?
Happy that my Yankees have clinched a playoff berth. Now if we can just catch the Red Sox...
Oh yeah... ALL RISE! Judge=50!
