Talking baseball

  • Celebrate your own accomplishment, fine. Be excited, fine. I'm all for allowing players to be excited. My issue is when the celebration involves staring down the pitcher/batter, mouthing taunts, or antagonizing the opponent. Celebrate respectfully (respect for the game, opponents, and fans) without being a d-bag.

As far as weather affecting the game, things have changed and I have this sneaking suspicion that it has a little bit to do with money. Consider why super bowls are played in domes or warm climates, you make more money when the game can't be canceled due to weather and fans will show up and not have to brave the cold. I feel bad for the fans who spent money to get to the ballpark gates in Cleveland yesterday only to cancel the game and be turned around. Ball players find a way to stay warm in October (or sometimes November), maybe not the Indians, but they should be able to find a way to stay warm in April as well.

  • The baseball season is too long - trim 10 games from the beginning of the season and another 10 games from the end of the season. World Series games being played in November is ridiculous.

Never going to happen though, the league and team owners are greedy and want every penny.

  • Personally I think they should start the season two weeks later and end it one week earlier. Too many cities the weather is not right for baseball.

As far as the Indians game it was 29 degrees for the high and with the Canadian wind coming off of Lake Erie it makes for bitter cold. To me that is not baseball weather. I don't think most fans would have gone to that game honestly. That is why they moved it to Tuesday. That is also why Cleveland usually starts the season on the road due to the cold of Northern Ohio. Lake Erie can make it feel much colder than normal there. I once went to a game on May 1st in Cincinnati where it was 38 degrees years ago. After that I told myself I won't ever go to a game before mid May. There are way too many home games with nice weather to freeze watching it.

  • I went to a couple of Pinstripe Bowl games (side note: GO ORANGE!!!) and nearly froze my toes off. I can only imagine what opening day at Yankee Stadium was like yesterday. Brrrr!!!

P.S. I have two trips to Yankee Stadium planned for this year! Hopefully, it won't be snowing in late June or August, but around here, you never know! :hehe:

  • No trips planned for me, but I may try to wander down for an afternoon game or two this year. Only one a month, so I'll see if they line up with my schedule.

  • We have tickets lined up for some Tigers games already. Also looking into getting free tickets for the travel team I coach (the Detroit Tigers have an organization called "Team Tigers" which promotes youth baseball).

Also looking into getting tickets for my team to attend a U-M baseball game.

  • Cubs first series was a 2 game sweep on the road outscoring the Angels 15-1. We're already 5 games up on the Cards. Feeling good here in Chicago.

  • Well, I'm going to opening day in CO tomorrow, for the first time in like 10 years. I used to go ever year when I got here, but they upset me after the World Series and I haven't gone back since then.

I'll be in Denver next week. Looking forward to it, first time in the Rockies.

You can visit the oldest restaurant in Colorado, the Buckhorn Exchange, which has liquor license #1. Start your meal with some fresh Rocky Mountain Oysters and then dive into a 16-oz Buffalo Prime Rib.

  • How about that crazy triple play that the White Sox pulled off the other day???

That's always cool. I've seen 3 home steals on team's I've played with as an adult, two by Doug Lane[/url].
