Tablix grouping problem...

  • All,

I want to have a detail section of my report that looks somewhat like this:

    Group1 Header

    Col1 H Col2 H Col3 H Col4 H

    ABCD 9/9/1999 Joe Passed

    EFGG 9/1/1999 Sam Failed

    HIJK 2/4/1968 Mary Tentative

    Group2 Header

    Col1 H Col2 H Col3 H Col4 H

    ZYKS 9/9/1999 Troy Passed

    UTLS 9/1/1999 Chastity Failed

    MOES 2/4/1968 Perdition Tentative

IOW, the group header stretches across all the columns below it. The group capabilities of the tablix, as far as I can tell, do not allow for this. I have tried embedding a tablix within a tablix, but I can't get the columns to appear *under* the group header. This would be a no-brainer in the old-style banded reporting tools.

    Any help appreciated.

    TIA,

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

I think what you are want to do is:

Tick the add header checkbox when you add the Group or if it already added right click the Details group and select Add Total -> Before then delete the Grouped column on the left of the tablix.

You can then highlight and merge the cells in this header row and then add the field you want for group headers in there. If it tries to summarise it just right click the field go to Summary and click on the ticked summary to unselect it.

You can also Insert Row -> Inside Group Below on this header row to insert a row below for the column headings.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks! That will do the trick...
