Its most important to backup system dbs.
Whats the best practice for chkdb,reorg,rebuild indexes,update stats maint plans for sys dbs?
I don't create them, but saw a server on which a DBA had created the plans, Whats the best practice, please provide links with your comments.

You should definitely run checkdb on the system databases (master, msdb) because if either of those is corrupted you have big problems and you need to know.
I don't do anything with the indexes in msdb and master and don't know if there are any best practices around them. If you maintain msdb then there probably are not enough pages in the indexes to make reorganizing or rebuilding them worthwhile.

Thx, I agree , I added Chk DB maint plan for system dbs on my servers.
