We are trying to determine what SQL Server 2000 Edition is required for our environment. We really don't need any of the features that Enterprise Edition offers over Standard Edition, except that our disk storage is on a System Area Network (SAN). BOL says that SAN is not supported under Standard Edition, but I am under the impression, that we can still take advantage of the SAN under Standard Edition.
Any help?

SAN (Storage Area Network) Support is determined by your operating system and not by SQL Server.
To MSSQL A SAN is transparent and looks just like a regular hard drive. You'll want to check with your fibre channel card OEM to see what version of Windows 2000 it supports.
Keep in mind that in order to use more than 3GB of RAM for a single instance of the MSSQL Process you will need to run Windows 2000 Advanced Server and SQL Server 2000 Enterprise.
I hope this helps,
Dan
