Syncronising Dev DB with Live DB.

  • SQL Server 2000

I have, what I imagine, is a pretty standard development area setup.  A Dev, Test and Live environment, each with its own copy of our DB(s).  So I do all my new development in Dev, which happens to be on my laptop.  When I am happy with it I push the code to the Test area, and let the users have a play.  Then on again to Live when everyone is happy.  The problem I have is moving my DB changes between the different development areas.  Are there any usefull (and preferably free!) tools anyone can recommend for doing this?  Some kind of SQL compare tool, that lets you compare 2 SQL DBs, and then commit the various differences between the 2 DBs?

    Thanks

    Steve

  • Tulasoft SQL Examiner is a pretty good tool and it is relatively cheap.

What I have seen of Apex tools impresses me, but be warned they are like drugs. Buy one and you'll be slavering for the next one

  • RedGate has one as well. Both it and the Apex tools are highly rated.
