synchronizing an SSAS database

  • Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with synchronizing an SSAS

Database? I have been trying to and it is always failing with:

    Database synchronization started.

An error was encountered in the transport layer.

The peer prematurely closed the connection.

Backup and restore errors: An error occurred while synchronizing the

    '[NAME]' database.

An error was encountered in the transport layer.

    Database synchronization failed.

All the BOL stuff seems to make it sound as though it is a very straight

forward process; however these things never seem to be so cut and dry for

    me *sigh*.....

Any ideas where I might be going wrong? Basically I am wanting to process

my cubes on one server and then copy them to another server. Figured this

would be the ticket; so tried to run it manually first to see the results

before trying to automate it, but no such luck here.

Any thoughts on the process involved?

    Thanks in advance

    Troy

  • Hmm it would appear that this could have been caused by the destination database not being a restore of the source.

It was just a blank database; not specifically a restore.

So in terms of automating this process I am thinking something along the lines of:

doing a check to see if the database exists <---not sure where to source this from but it must be somewhere no doubt in a table

if it does exist then begin the sychronize

if it doesn't exist backup the source and restore on the destination

    then begin synchronize.

Anyone see any gaping holes in this process or recommend something cleaner/easier/etc?

Keen to hear feedback either way.

    Thanks

    Troy

  • Give me strength; now it is giving me the same error!!! *argh*

Anyhow have any ideas or seen this before?

  • Righto; okay all sorted now. In the interests of keeping this post complete in case someone else has the same/similar problem I figured I should post my result 🙂

Anyhow my problem was that the service account on my destination server did not have access/privelidges to the source database. So changed the username/password on the service account for SSAS and made sure that this username has access to the d/b on the source server.

Now the world is a happy place.

  • An error was encountered in the transport layer.

File system error: The following error occurred while reading from the file 'Compressed stream'.

Backup and restore errors: An error occurred while synchronizing the 'UKReporting' database.

An error was encountered in the transport layer.

An error was encountered in the transport layer.

An error was encountered in the transport layer.

An error was encountered in the transport layer.

An error was encountered in the transport layer.

An error was encountered in the transport layer.

An error was encountered in the transport layer.

    Database synchronization failed.

What you have to say about this ?

i have all the requirement fulfilled as mentioned above...

    SP2 SQL 2005...

    Any Idea ?

  • having the same issue...did you ever resolve?

    thanks!

  • Yes... Run a hard disk scan ... you will find a disk error 🙂

We replaced the hard disk to resolve this error.. In the mean time copy and paste data folder across different instances....

    And it will work
