Senior Software Engineer (Database Developer)
Major Responsibilities:
This is a position within Symantec's Managed Security Services development team. The primary focus of this position will be working on a team to design and develop the software to run the SMSS operations center. Specifically, work involves database development on a distributed system that analyzes Firewall and Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) log information for suspicious activity. Advanced database techniques are used to data mine logs to extract hacker/virus/worm activity. Primary emphasis on T-SQL programming and experience using MS SQL Server 2000. Position requires experience in database schema design and database configuration management.
Position Requirements and Education:
Required Education: BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
“Must have” to meet minimum requirements:
1. 4+ yrs Relational database development & design experience
2. 3+ yrs TSQL programming experience on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 databases
3. Basic knowledge of SQL server trouble-shooting methodologies
4. Experience with database configuration management tools
5. 2+ yrs DBA experience
6. Fast learner, self motivated, team player
7. Strong problem solving/analytical skills
8. Must be able to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment
Additional desired, but not mandatory experience:
1. Experience with MS SQL Server in a clustered environment
2. C++/C programming experience
3. Advanced DBA skills:
a. Backup/Restore/Recovery
b. Security Model/Permissions
c. SQL Server Architecture knowledge
d. Performance Monitoring and Query Optimization
e. Replication Management experience
f. Interpreting SQL Execution Plans
