Switch from prod DBA to BI Admin or Cloud?

  I would like to understand the pros and cons of switching the job role from a core production DBA to either BI admin or somewhere into the cloud.

  Are there any blogs or articles which can talk more about this transition?

  When you say cloud what do you mean? A DBA that administers instances hosted on a cloud platform, someone that manages the cloud platform, one of another many types of roles related to cloud computing?

  As a DBA that works with both onsite SQL Server \ My SQL instances and cloud hosted instances there is significant differences in what is possible.

  Personally if you are a good DBA stick with that an improve your knowledge of what RDBMS system are available in a cloud environment such as Amazons AWS, Azure etc. That way you are more versatile.
