All,
I often see companies are using latest huge data products for their new projects and submitting their RFP's in XXXXXX, XXXX and with some lastest BI's ( xxxxx, xxxxx etc)..I can see the market is not that much limited now when I compare 2006 (i.e. 10 years back).. In those days, I saw only limited technologies (.Net,Java - Legacy Mainframe, PowerBuilder - Sybase, SQLServer, oracle,MySQL - Few C projects , Informatica & Cognos ) in my companies and around the world... But we all know the things are changed entirely now... XXXXXX technologies (LOT OF X's) ... A very big storm started to rule data along with latest BI tools...I think it will grow very fast as the world is also aligned with computers and latest technologies; Population increases in another way Data growth increase is also the reason for looking something big.
When We talk about Data Growth, I agree at some degree we need some big space along with fast retrieval to store some useful data, but at the same time, lot of unused, unwanted, immature, some time pass chatting data swallow huge amount space where as it directly impact the environment (More Usage of Internet which in turn require more towers, more wavelengths are mixed in the air (dont know is it harmful for human body or not), few bird types are not no more in the world now, more diseases, less rain, more sun shine, climate change etc etc)
Let us take this simple example... If I use my mobile for 5 mins.. The consumption of Signal through tower and the heat produced by mobile which will mix in the air will be very less.
But If I use my mobile for 1 or 2 hours regularly again the consumption of signal through tower and the heat produced by mobile, Once more number of user started to use mobile tower..there should be a necessity to increase the mobile tower which in turn impact the environment...
I can see lot of difference in environment (not healthy difference & changes) when i compare it with 15 years back. is it the same story around the world? Please share your thought and the things that are not no more in your place.
what we are going to left for our next generations other than 'n' number of technologies , diseases and apps ?
I miss Organic/Healthy foods, Good Air, Trees, Proper Rain, Less Sun shine, Agricultural lands, few bird types ( it is no more now due to cell phone towers)... I don't know what are the other things that i will prepare after 10 years in the missing list..hum...

The only way to fix the problems you speak of is for people to stop breeding like the irresponsible rabbits the general population appears to be. It's a bit ironic that the availability of food is responsible for the population explosion of the last century or so because it will ultimately be one of the things to suffer. It may be too late though. Stephen Hawking has been claiming since 2013 that we probably only have another 1000 years before we give up the ghost.
As for the food, anyone remember this old movie?

I think that one of the taglines from that movie hit the reason for our demise pretty much on the head...
"It's the year 2022... People are still the same. They'll do anything to get what they need."
I'll add "or want" to that.

I am wondering about director's prediction (2022) of the movie which you mentioned...
No Need to wait till 2022...People already started to do anything for Money..They want to enjoy A to Z in this world without working hard..umm..without working atleast some hours..
This movie was released before i come to this world 🙂 It released almost 9 years before my DOB.
People are not even thinking about Agriculture and don't have time to think other than technologies and don't spend time to save natural things...Most of the people doesn't know which tree will give more oxygen..which one will give cool air during sun shine..which one will give more rain...which one will save soil quality..they all need sophisticated car, touch phone, fast internet, online games, grand shopping malls, some junk foods.
One important thing is people started to hate rain 🙁 in the rainy season because it is wasting their costly shoes (because of mud).
I am curious to know what kind of changes that you are seeing in your place when you compare your childhood/Mid age days and current days...

In my opinion one of the biggest problems, at least where I live, is the car. Something that started as a solution has brought about a whole new world of problems, and not just the pollution they cause. I live in the suburbs instead of a city because I want to be someplace safe, and that has good schools for my kids. But the whole concept of how suburbs have been designed the last few decades is awful. They are completely designed for the car, with multi-lane roads and highways, and large parking lot seas everywhere. Only recently have people started to think "gee, wouldn't it be nice if there was a walkable community". I suppose things ebb and flow in cycles, and cities, small towns, even some suburbs are experiencing a rebirth, but it will take a long time to change.

Heh... 40 years ago, Troy Michigan was mostly farms. Now, its a see of houses and many large business building with a shedload of 4 lane streets and very few trees compared to what it was. I live close to Troy and Pontiac. The area to the west of Pontiac used to be the "up north" vacation spot with lots of lakes and natural beauty. The lakes are still there but not much to be said about natural beauty.

I had a training class in Troy MI for a week back in the mid 90's, I stayed at a hotel that said it was 4 blocks away from the training center... little did I know at the time that each "block" was about a mile long. Fortunately I was able to ride back and forth with my co-worker who was going to the same training.

I'll add "or want" to that.
I think I would just change "need" to "want", rather than keeping "need", because there are a lot of politicians, lawyers, and executives out there who need a good kicking and will do anything to avoid getting what they need.
I remember being somewhat disappointed by the movie 43 years ago; it was not as good as the book on which it was rather loosely based (bHarry Harrrison's "Make Room, Make Room", published 50 years ago). At the time one reviewer said that the only thing the script writer hadn't thrown away was "soylent steak" and even that he had changed to "soylent green", but that was an exaggeration. Overpopulation and its consequences was the theme of another famous novel 2 years later (John Brunner's "Stand on Zanzibar"). Both those (very different) novels predicted a pretty miserable world as the result of overpopulation, greater gaps between rich and poor, people wanting something for nothing, and much of the mess we have today.

Hum...I thought it is happening only here...Even lake are also destroyed and can see houses and IT Companies building with no trees planted around the building... The situation is who will bell the cat...who will protect the natural beauty? who will atleast think about the past days and bring it back ?
Sometime I like i would have born 70 years back..so that I would live along with natural and would have eaten organic food...fresh air..good birds...proper rain...no hot sun...less population..enough time to spend with my relatives, grand mother & father...hum..But with limited money ( but it doesn't matter..i can plan my life style accordingly..I miss only money but will get all other valuable important wealth than money)..because during those years only agriculture is the main source of income..it is not like Software companies salary...
