Surface Area Configuration in a Clustered environment

  • I'm trying to run the Surface Area Configuration against a server in a clustered environment. I verified that 'remote access' and 'remote admin connection' is enabled (set to 1 with sp_configure) and I'm connecting to the cluster address (used both the virtual machine name and the IP).

I'm able to see all the components in the instance but when I select any item I'm getting the error: "You cannot configure surface area of clustered services by connecting to the computer name. Connect to the virtual server to configure clustered services".

  • Start SQLSAC and select remote computer and enter the virtual sql server name.
