Supreme Being?

  • Have you noticed how every one is now a Supreme Being on the site (instead of newbie, ms 500...).

Is this a new marketing feature designed for the ego or something else??

    :D.

  • It just feels right to me.

  • In my case, it's just confirmation of something I've known all along.  Now if I can just convince my boss....  😉

  • Ha! You've been struck down!

Apparently that table wasn't on the migration list. I've corrected them this morning to appropriately show your levels again!

I need to add an SSC Ninja, maybe 10,000 posts? Complete list is:

    Forum Newbie - 0

    Grasshopper - 10

    SSC Rookie - 25

    Valued Member - 50

    SSC Journeyman - 75

    SSC-Enthusiastic - 100

    SSC Veteran - 200

    Old Hand - 300

    SSC-Addicted - 400

    Mr or Mrs. 500 - 500

    SSChasing Mays - 600

Right there with Babe - 714

    SSC Eights! - 800

    Ten Centuries - 1000

    SSCommitted - 1500

    SSCrazy - 2000

    Hall of Fame - 3000

    SSCarpal Tunnel - 4000

    SSCertifiable - 5000

    SSCrazy Eights - 8000

    SSChampion - 10000

  • That would be a great idea Steve.  Can you tell us how the new point system works?  Last time I checked, I only had 9600 posts or something like that.

  • If you have more than the posts listed (but less than the next number), you get that title.

So 0-9 posts is Newbie, etc.

  • Thank you Steve for the quick reply.  But this is not the question I asked :).

I meant that in the old version of the site I had 9600 posts, now with the transfer I have 10500 points.  So where does the 900 points difference comes from??

I can think of PM sent and received and QOTD, but other than that I don't see where they can come from.

  • Ouch.  It's like getting promoted and demoted in the same week.  It was fun while it lasted.

So Steve, I noticed that you have references to Mays and Babe, but no Bonds?  Hmmmm....  😉

  • Not sure what happened with the points/posts. Supposedly they're stored separately, but I haven't had a chance to dig through the db with this somewhat crazy day. I'll get this info sometime.

Bonds is a great hitter, no doubt. Maybe the best hitter ever, but certainly not the best player. No rings, not great post-season, etc. Plus he's not done. Ruth and Mays are set in stone.

Should have a "Rose" level and maybe a Cy Young (strikeouts) one as well 🙂

In my case, it's pretty clear that my score is the sum of forum posts and points from Question of the Day. Maybe articles published are added in also.

  • Greg is correct. I heard last night the formula is QOtD points + forum posts.

I'm looking for alternate suggestions for names as well as formula for measuring points on the front page. I like seeing posts here, so we'll try to get that switched back.

  • That makes more sens Steve, the forums were always about posts... not QOTD. It's a good idea to have an overall points system but I like the old way better.

  • Actually, can you assign applicable points to different forums? ie: make posts in the SQL Server forums +1 and post in non-SQL Server forums (editorials and such) +0??

That would cover an issue I have always had with counting the number of posts. People could post away in non-SQL forums thus inflating the count.

  • Come on now, let's not overcomplicate things. Has abuse of the point system really been an issue?

  • Never heard anyone complain about this...

I see Phil's point of view on this matter. However a contribution on a editorial is still a contribution. Many editorials are right on target with SQL server, so those posts would still count as "Valid"... this could really become a nightmare to track down... especially going back 6-7 years.
