SUN DB

  • My guess is that they'll leave the open source product as it is, letting it evolve over time. I think that this will put more pressure on Oracle, IBM, and other methods of development by pushing the LAMP stack as well as heavily pushing Solaris-Apache-MySQL-Java for corporations as a preferred method of building application. I'm not sure this changes the SQL Server model too much as Windows shops will probably still consider SQL Server first, but you never know.

  • I suppose it would have to be renamed the SAMP stack, once Sun has done its marketing work. I've always thought of MySQL as the database for people who dislike databases and don't quite understand them. If you want a good public-domain database, then there is always PostgreSQL or SQLite.

    Best wishes,
