Started a new job not too long ago so I didn't have much vacation time this summer.
Spent the summer working and then preforming the Dad taxi role shuffling my kids from swim practice to swim meet.
Getting excited because soccer season is starting and now I can spend my evenings/weekends shuffling the kids from soccer practice to soccer games and watching the EPL whenever I have a chance.

We have plans for a mid-August trip to the Washington Coast. Some say being so far north the beach is too cold, but the sea, sand, and company are great. Last visit was excellent and far enough away to forget work.
Looking forward to it.

We didn't have much plans for summer, we expected to visit south of Mexico on September but my wife broke her calf. Now she has to keep at rest. She's visiting her parents at the beach next week and, hopefully, I'll spend a long weekend with her.
Other than that, we're restricted to stay at home.

We took a short but wonderful vacation down to New Orleans to enjoy fabulous food and good times. We went people-watching on Bourbon Street, where they do cheap and tawdry well. We meandered through shops and galleries. We ate to an elegant sufficiency. We sang and danced (badly) but the wonderful thing about New Orleans is that nobody else cares. 😀

My 18 year old went to Iceland, my 13 year old is in Scotland helping with a heritage steam train tour, my middle son is.....somewhere else. First time since the kids were born that the wife and I have had an empty house.
Nice, but at the same time strangely melancholy

Unfortunately, my summer has been just one arrest away from a country song. Hey, it happens...I'm just glad football season is around the corner.
Fantastic metaphor (is that the correct trope?), sounds like a story.
Football season - here to save us soon! At least the crappy World Cup is out the way (OK it was pretty entertaining but I'd like to have watched England longer).

Really? Playing like that I could barely stand to watch just 2 of the 3 games they did play!

I was poorly for one (nothing serious) and couldn't watch the last one and was left feeling that I still managed more effort than the England players did in the middle match. Appalling. Simply appalling.

England were SO bad me and the kids started supporting Holland (Man United link for us with the manager)!!! Impressed by USA effort so hope that football bug keeps growing over the pond.
On the holiday front we are all off to France soon for a coupld of weeks camping. Taking our bikes and going with close friends. Lots of great food and wine, fantastic beaches and lovely people. Great time to be had - we also turn off the phones (apart from a daily check for any family emergencies back home) and ban any internet access for the time we are away - no TV either. It is great for us all to have a break from technology. We come back feeling refreshed and raring to go again. 😀
Up until the holiday I am just a dad's cab!!!

Speaking as a freelancer sometimes you get enforced "sabbaticals" between contracts, or "on the bench" in contractor speak. Had far too many over the last ten years. It's nice having a week or two (or sometimes a month) to spend time with family or some other project but after a while you are itching to be back earning the green.

I never seem to utilise the enforced breaks properly. I do get a mental and physical refresh but I always end up wishing that I could know how long I would have between contracts so that I could not worry and use the time more wisely. I suppose that is life though 😉

There was no pleasure in any observation of that team it is fair to say - I did manage to get through the 2 games but I guess there would have been an unspoken proviso in my post - i.e. that they managed to play as well as say Switzerland or Ghana or some other footballing giant.

lol I'll give you that one. So far as I see it the biggest problems with English football these days is how they don't roll around on the floor when they're absolutely fine and they don't bite enough opponents.

Well, as a Saints fan I'll add the fact that other teams nick all our players as soon as they demonstrate they can manage a straight pass over 10 yards.
