Suggestion on the Service Pack...

  • Dear Experts,

I need a suggestion on the below one: For better performance increase....

    Present Server Configuration:

    SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition- 64 BIT - SP3

    Windows 2003 Server - SP1

I would like to know can the server configuration is made as

    SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition- 64 BIT - SP3

Windows 2003 Server 64 BIT- SP2 (Latest Version)

can this improves the server performance ?? CPU Utilization to better performance ??

Suggest me please if that is the better option or WIN 2k3 SP1 will be OK..??

  • I do not believe that Windows 2003 SP1 is supported any longer, so you will need to move up to SP2 should you wish to continue to receive any support from Microsoft.

    Thanks for your reply...

Actually I am not aware of that....

I thought of thinking the server updates may improve the SQL DB and the CPU utilization to better extent. Its reaching 100% CPU usage.

As tuned lot many queries and procedures and moved some Reports to other server which are in Log Shipping.

Do Dashboard reports on the server also effects the SQL utilization to 100% CPU..

Can anyone please if we can go to SP2 for - WINDOWS Server 2003, 64 BIT Edition. ????

  • I've been running W2003 R2 x64 bit on SP2 in both Dev and Production for awhile.

Apply it to your Dev environment and test it first.

I don't think anyone is going to say 'just apply it' on a production machine without testing it first.

I wouldn't expect it to do much in respect to your CPU issue.

Troubleshooting that is a whole different topic.
