Subscriber is not registered at server Publisher

  • I am new to replication and need some help with a pull subscription for merge replication.

When I start synchronization of the subscription, I get the following error:

Server 'Subscriber' is not registered at server 'Publisher'

I have verified that the Subscriber is registered at the Publisher, the subscriber appears on the Subscribers tab on the Publishers & Distributors Properties dialog box on the publisher (and is checked).  The only reason I can think of that it thinks it's not is that I used the fully qualified domain name, e.g., server.domain.com, when I registered the subscriber at the publisher and the result of select @@servername on the subscriber is just 'server'.

My publisher & subscriber are in two different domains, so I have to use a fully qualified path name in order to connect (don't I?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I really don't know if this helps but try using server ip addressess as registered servers when replicating across different domains, we do so and it works just fine. Although our replication type is different (push).

  • One thing that I have found to cause this error is if the snapshot location is set incorrectly. To view the snapshot location, expand Replication->Subscriptions->Right click on each subscription and open the [Snapshot File Location] tab.

I ticked the option to get the snapshot from the Publisher's normal snapshot location (which in my case was a network location) and this error disappeared.

Prior to this, it had been set to pick up the snapshot locally and this appears to have caused the "Server PAL081A can not be registered at VEDBDKRA" error .
