I'm attempting to upgrade to Service Pack 4 on my SQL Server 7.0. I have performed this upgrade before (different machine) and it worked fine.
This SQL Server is running on NT 4 Server in a VMware virtual machine (which is running on XP Pro).
I've checked the password for sa and it is the same, and I've also tried it using the integrated Administer login. However, no matter how long I leave it it never gets past the "Validating Password" screen and in fact, I have to manually power down to reboot.
Any ideas?

I've had similar lockup issues with VMWare on WinXP. I ended up removing the USB support for the particular VM and got past it. BTW, when installing the Server 20003 RC2, you have to remove USB support for the VM, regardless of the OS VMWare is running on. Needless to say, I tried it on the Win2K install when I locked up and that got me through. Worth a try?
