I would like to know how other DBA's manage installing SP's and hotfixes for SQL server 2005. Will they directly go ahead with the latest one( assuming it would be tested in lower environments) or just leave the way it is. If i am installing SP3 would there be any issue? Also if i am not wrong SP3 does cover SP2 + all the hotfixes until SP3 right? please share your thoughts..thanks

Hi,
I usually install service packs, but I wait for a month or so to make sure that there are no corrections to it (like it happened with SQL 2000 SP3a). I install hotfixes only if they are security related or if they fix issue that we have. You are right - the service packs include all previous service packs and fixes, the same is about cumulative updates, they include previous cumulative updates.
