Expert,
I ran into a weird unicode issue. help me understand why I was not using wildcard search, but the result show as if I was. unless I indicated with an N?
--why both of these returns a result? unless explicitly change to N'PM1_BEEL_BWT_MD_2Ω_RTU.PV' ?
declare @temp table (dummy nvarchar(50))
insert into @temp(dummy) values('PM1_BEEL_BWT_MD_2?_RTU.PV')
--exact match
select * from @temp where dummy = 'PM1_BEEL_BWT_MD_2Ω_RTU.PV'
--
select * from @temp where dummy LIKE 'PM1_BEEL_BWT_MD_2Ω_RTU.PV'

try this:
declare @dummy nvarchar(50) = 'PM1_BEEL_BWT_MD_2?_RTU.PV';
select @dummy;
The result is 'PM1_BEEL_BWT_MD_2?_RTU.PV', which is what you are putting in the table.
Why? try this:
declare @dummy varchar(50) = N'PM1_BEEL_BWT_MD_2?_RTU.PV' ;
select @dummy;
Same result - the conversion from the text editor to a sql variable/column converts the Ohm symbol to a ? because it is not valid in a varchar string, which is what you have typed.

🙂
Would you prefer it throwing exception on non-ASCII symbol assignment to VARCHAR ?
