I have turned protocol encryption (forceencryption=yes) on which gives me encrypted SSL packets. When I turn encryption off the db server is still sending out SSL packet to communicate with the client but the data is unencrypted. I would have thought turning the protocol encryption off would have reverted the packets been sent out to the server being TDS. Is there some sort of timeout that prevent it from using TDS packets straightaway when encryption is turned off?

I doubt that you can change protocols for already established connections.
