Strange error after power failure

  • Hello everyone,

I have a problem that I have no clue as to what is going on. We have a server that runs Windows 2000 Server and SQL Server Express. The application that accesses the SQL Server is written in VB6 with ADO and uses sql native client to connect to the DB Server.

After two short power failures some of the client PCs refuse to connect to SQL Server giving a timeout error with number -2147467259 saying something about the network.

At the same time other PCs using the same switch to connect to the network, work fine with SQL Server.

Also the PCs that have the problem have network drives mapped on the server and they work perfectly reading/writing files on the server file system.

Any ideas of what might be wrong?

  • OK, the problem was solved by our net administrator. After he tried everything he knew he started experimenting.

He stopped then started agan manually the DNS service on the Server although it did not report any errors and magically everything was fixed....
