Hi,
Really need your advice.
The infra guys inform me that Server RAID Controller failure. However he thinks that it's an false alarm. He asks me to asses and confirm whether I want the controller to be replaced.
Here are the warning:
Severity Fatal
Event Type Storage.ServeRAID Controller.State.Failed
In my opinion, I should not be the one who have to assess and confirm if the controller shall be replaced. DBA is not the hardware people. Infra should know better when it comes to hardware.
However, what can I do if I wanna ensure that the controller is okay from DBA point of view?
Thanks

Here is my input.
It is really a case-by-case issue. In a very small company, a DBA may take care of everything.
Generally speaking, a DBA should be out of it. Windows team, or whatever team taking care of hardware, whould be responsible for this issue because we are not trained in this field. For example, we may not know what consequences we may have to run a raid diagnostics.
My suggestion is to tell you boss you have such, such an error. You need someone to fix the controller issue.

Thanks for your input.
I've told infra team to engage the hardware vendor to confirm if we require to replace the controller and inform my boss accordingly.

I'd agree with your actions. You don't want to mess with the hardware that your database depends on and if you're not an expert, get someone who is.
